Cognition Education Limited is owned by Cognition Education Trust, a not-for-profit organisation committed to improving education. Cognition Education Trust distributes funds to the education sector through various community initiatives, including the Cognition Institute.

Candis Craven 

ONZM

Candis brings extensive experience to her role as Chair of Cognition Education Trust.

A member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors, her current directorships include Auckland Council Investments Ltd, the Auckland Regional Amenities Funding Board, Auckland Art Fair Ltd and the Royal New Zealand Ballet.

She has previously been Chair of the Investment Committee at Public Trust, and member of Occupational Therapy Board of NZ and of the ASB Community Trust Board. Candis was made an Officer of the Order of New Zealand (ONZM) in 2001 for her services to health education.

 Keith Goodall
CA, CMA, FCIS

Keith is a member of the Cognition Education Trust and has served as a director of Multi Serve since its inception 22 years ago.

A Chartered Accountant with over 30 years’ experience, he is a director of Keith Goodall & Associates (KGA Ltd), a specialist accounting practice.

Keith is a director of substantial companies in the health, education, telecommunications, energy and distribution companies, and was till recently deputy chairman of a top 200 Australian listed company. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors.

Keith has authored and presented continuing education courses for The Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand and also held a government board appointment to a State Owned Enterprise.

 

 

John Hattie
ONZM, BA, DipEd, MA(Hons) (Otago), PGDipArts (Otago), PhD (Tor)

John is currently Director of the Research Institute at the University of Melbourne’s Graduate School of Education, and Honorary Professor at the University of Auckland.

An outstanding scholar and researcher, acclaimed internationally as an authority on teaching and assessment, John has  authored or co-authored 12 books, the most recent being Visible Learning, and more than 500 papers.

He was Director of the Visible Learning Lab and eAsTTle, an assessment tool for teaching and learning literacy and numeracy.

He has been both Professor and Chair of Educational Research Methodology at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro.  He has also held senior positions at the University of Western Australia in Perth, and the University of New England.

John was made an Officer of the Order of New Zealand (ONZM) in 2011 for his services to education.


 

 
Margaret Bendell

A former principal of Epsom Girls Grammar School and Board Member of the New Zealand 

Qualifications Authority for several terms, since 2005 Margaret has held a number of leadership and management roles in the Faculty of Education at the University of Auckland.

Much of Margaret's recent work has been focused on the implementation of the New Zealand Curriculum (2007), and professional learning for principals and other school leaders.

Margaret's professional career has been marked by her leading contributions to curriculum design, particularlyin the field of English, and qualifications reform. 

She has a long-standing commitment to the on-going development of curriculum, pedagogy and qualification systems that support young people to succeed at school, and to develop capabilities for their on-going learning beyond school.

In 2005, Margaret was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM) for her services to education.
