John Ellis - Project Director, Qatar 

John was appointed as In-Country Manager for Qatar in July 2008. He was the mathematics consultant in a Cognition project team, implementing new internal assessment procedures in Grade 12 for the Qatar Secondary School Certificate – a project that is ongoing.  He has 13 years experience as Principal at Rotorua Lakes High School and has travelled to Asian countries, particularly China, to work closely with and develop relationships with schools.  He was invited to present the new NZ curriculum at an international education conference held at Shenzhen Number 1 Middle School in November 2007.  Rotorua Lakes High School was one of two secondary schools who piloted the highly successful Te Kotahitanga project from 2002 to 2005.  He has a wide appreciation of the importance cultural values have in schools for improving teaching and learning for students.
 

Dr Ian Hall - Project Director, Abu Dhabi 

B.A. (Otago), M.Ed. (Sask), Ph.D. (Sask), DipTchg, DipEd (Massey), DipBusStud (Massey), PGDipEd (Sask)
Dr Ian Hall is one of New Zealand’s most experienced educational leaders having been Principal of the Otago Polytechnic and the Christchurch College of Education. Ian’s early career was in primary school teaching, the secretariat of the Educational Development Conference, and policy development work in the Department of Education.
Before joining Cognition, Ian spent five years as Director of the Ras Al Khaimah colleges within the United Arab Emirates system of Higher Colleges of Technology.
Ian’s undertook graduate studies in educational administration and public policy at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada. Ian has been a director of various private and not-for-profit companies including the Canterbury Development Corporation and Advanced Business Education Ltd and he is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management.
 

Andy Worrall - Associate Project Director, Abu Dhabi

B.A and Dip Teach Secondary
Andy has worked across a range of roles and projects within the last 6 years in Cognition. Andy has worked in education consultancy roles in New Zealand, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and is currently part of the successful team in Abu Dhabi. Andy has held project management responsibility in new schools development, assessment in schools, organisation and education review and more recently in international education reform. As a former secondary school teacher Andy has continued to develop his understanding of effective educational practice and leadership in KG, Primary and Preparatory school settings.
