Thursday, September 14th, 2006: Multi Serve Education Trust (MSET), New Zealand’s leading educational services provider and exporter, has donated an additional $500,000 funding for high quality education research to further develop standards right across the school sector. It brings the total funding provided since the launch earlier this year of Cognition Education Research Trust (Cognition Research) to more than $1.3million. Cognition Research is a nongovernmental body which contributes to building a stronger research base for New Zealand’s education system. It is one of the primary means through which the net surplus of MSET’s earnings are ploughed back into the local educational sector. The additional funding was prompted by the strong calibre of expressions of interest for the current round of applications and relates specifically to funding for a second round of research grants in 2007. “While our school system generally performs to a very high standard, we continue to have a number of students who fail to benefit adequately from the skills of their teachers. We hope to fund more research into this concern in order to help schools understand why these disparities exist and how schools and the education community can best overcome them,” says Mary Sinclair, Executive Trustee of the Research Trust. “It’s clear that the education community throughout New Zealand have embraced Cognition Research and supported the strategy of funding high quality research to lift standards right across the school sector,” says Des Hammond, Chief Executive of Multi Serve Education Trust.
