Cognition Education Research Trust (CERT) is one of the primary means through which Multi Serve Education Trust honours its commitment to benefitting New Zealand’s schools and the young people educated by them. Over the last decade considerable research and experience has clearly shown that the most significant factor in the learning and achievement of children and young people is the quality of teaching they receive. Around New Zealand there are thousands of teachers who demonstrate such quality every day. While we cannot honour them all every year, we can honour some. The NEiTA awards are one way of doing just that.
The NEiTA Excellence in Teaching Awards acknowledge teachers with exemplary classroom skills and dedication, who demonstrate innovative approaches to teaching that serve as models in primary/intermediate and secondary schools and early childhood centres. The NEiTA Excellence in Leadership Awards acknowledge principals, directors, syndicate, department and faculty leaders, in both schools and early childhood education centres, whose leadership qualities inspire outstanding learning outcomes for children, and who set ambitious but achievable goals for their school or centre community. The ceremony for the regional awards was held on 13 May 2008 in Wellington. The final phase of the awards process took place in October when the national awards and professional development grants were announced.
