In association with TEAM Solutions, UC Education Plus and Visual Learning, Cognition completed the final DVD in a series titled Making Language and Learning Work. The first DVD in the series, produced in 2006, focused on secondary mathematics and science, and the second, produced in 2007, focused on secondary English and social sciences. In 2008, we produced the final in the series, which focussed on language for learning in years 5-8. These DVDs feature examples of effective teacher practice, showing integrated language and curriculum content for teaching students from diverse language backgrounds. The DVDs show teachers and students using and talking about a variety of teaching and learning strategies, each of which is derived from a broader principle of language for learning. The target groups for the DVDs are all primary teachers of students in years 5-13, as well as ESOL specialists. DVD 1 was distributed to schools in February 2007 and DVD 2 in April 2008, and DVD 3 is expected to be in schools at the end of 2008. |
