Curriculum PDF Print

Curriculum design involves teachers and school leaders making decisions about how to enact national curricula in ways that meet the needs, interests and aspirations of the students, families and school communities.  A school curriculum clarifies and prioritises student learning, identifying authentic contexts and resources, and allows teachers flexibility as they respond to the needs, interests and talents of their students.

Curriculum implementation is the process of enacting the designed curriculum within a school, including regularly reviewing and modifying it based on evidence of learning and achievement.

In the international setting this process can often include the development of learning scope and sequence documents and the documentation of assessment opportunities.

Curriculum design
We provide strategic support in curriculum design at both the school and national level.  This includes supporting school leaders and teachers to enact their curriculum within their community, aligning school needs and curriculum needs and developing frameworks for a specific curriculum area, for example the Digital Technologies Guidelines .

Curriculum implementation
We provide in-school support for school leaders and teachers as they work to implement their curriculum.  This can be as detailed as specific pedagogical content knowledge or as broad as supporting school leaders to design a local curriculum for their school.

We support national or local implementation of curricula through the development of teacher professional online communities, for example English Online, and curriculum support materials, for example the Senior Secondary Curriculum Guides – Mathematics and Statistics.
