2012 Mathematics Workshops

The Cognition team is pleased to announce we will be offering a range of mathematics workshops in 2012. Cognition is a leading provider of professional development and works with teachers and school leaders to build the capacity of schools to support their own development.

Mathematics JAM – Junior Assessment in Mathematics

JAM is a new assessment tool designed to assess the achievement of students in relation to levels one and two of The New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) and the mathematics standards for years 1–3. The assessment tool consists of 9 modules. Each module can be used as a separate assessment, or the modules can be combined to provide a broader assessment. This half day workshop will give teachers and school leaders an opportunity to become more familiar with the JAM tool and examine ways of effectively using JAM for collection and analysis of junior student’s’ number and strand data.

Effective Numeracy

The effective numeracy course is designed for teachers new to the profession, teachers returning to the workforce and overseas trained teachers. Participants will gain mathematical knowledge and confidence in using the teaching framework, assessing their students and understanding the progressions in the numeracy framework.

Part One: The first session will cover the number framework, number knowledge, place value and assessment.
Part Two: The second session will cover the number strategy progressions in addition/subtraction, multiplication/division and fractions.
Participants will need to attend both sessions and bring numeracy books 1,4,5,6 & 7.

e-asTTle - Train your Trainer

Have your own e-asTTle trainer in your school
Following the success of the 2011 series of Train the Trainer workshops, VL+ is offering another series of 2 day workshops in 2012 so you can have your own trained e-asTTle expert working on-site in your school. As well as covering some of the technical aspects of managing e-asTTle this course will also focus on the best ways of using e-asTTle so you can maximize its use in your school.
We have just completed the first of the 2012 series this week with a number of hardy professionals wanting to up-skill over their summer break. Several commented on how nice it was to work without worrying about what was happening at school. Our next e-asTTle Train the Trainer course in Auckland is on 23/24 February. We are also offering the workshops in Christchurch on 29Feb/1March and in Wellington on 13/14 March. Be in quick places are limited!
