Take a box of chocolates or small present. They may eat on the floor. The right hand is used for food and drink. The meal may be segregated, with men in one room and women in another. You should try most foods as it is impolite to refuse.

Do not offer your hand to a member of the opposite sex. If an Emirati does offer you his or her hand, offer yours in return. You should just touch the hand and no more in response. A handshake is reserved for male to male, female to female; once you become close, there may well be kisses cheek to cheek, but again only within the gender.

Never make comment about a woman to a man, even if it is a compliment. This includes his wife or daughter. You should also not admire personal belongings or possessions.
